WILLIAMSPORT – Lycoming College head football coach Frank Girardi earned the 250th victory of his illustrious career as the Warriors capped the 2005 season with a 17-10 overtime victory over longtime rival Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.

Quarterback Glenn Smith (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) scored on an 11-yard scamper during Lycoming’s overtime possession to give the Warriors the lead. The defense, stout all game, made Smith’s seventh touchdown run of the season stand up as they forced the Warriors on downs to secure the victory.

Warriors football a lot better than last Saturday's results against the River Hawks show

Lycoming offensive line opening a lane for Jr RB Keith Batkowski.
Williamsport, PA - Was it an omen, the very first play of the game? Off sides on the kickoff! Did it forecast one of those games that is an anomaly? We think so. When things go wrong, it is like a snowball going downhill. it gains in size, and it is very hard to stop. That was Saturday's game against the River Hawks.

Lycoming Photos - So LB Mike Kalyan recovers a River Hawk fumble

So LB Mike Kalyan (Auburn, PA / Schuylkill Haven) recover a Susquehanna University

Lycoming Football - So you thought there were a lot of turnovers and perfection gone wrong!

A photo series of perfection (John Green)
I was there and saw the turnovers. They seemed to come often and at the wrong time. Changing momentum that was needed in this river rivalry. Well, how many of those turnovers were next to perfect? Check out the photo at the top and then look at the rest of the photos. This pass from freshman Elijah Shemory was perfect, right on the money. And Sr WR and record holder Nick Costello was in perfect position to bring down an up for grabs reception. And this is what happened to perfection. The perfect defensive play by the River Hawks defender. What are your thoughts? Tweet them under hashtag #perfect.

Warriors run past River Hawks in Stagg Hat Trophy game

9th Yr. Head Coach Mike Clark with the Stagg Hat
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Blake Bowman (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) rushed 28 times for 168 yards and three touchdowns, including a two-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter that helped the Lycoming College football team ward off a late rally from Susquehanna University in a 27-24 win in the 20th addition of the Stagg Hat Trophy rivalry on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3, at David Person Field.

The Warriors (1-0 overall) took advantage of two River Hawk fumbles in the first half to score two touchdowns, while managing their own miscues, fumbling four times but losing none.

“Coming out and starting 1-0, it reconfirms what we thought about our team,” ninth-year Lycoming head coach Mike Clark said. “There are obviously a lot of things we need to work on – we put the ball on the ground a lot today. Fortunately, we didn’t lose one. We won the turnover battle – plus-three, so that helps. Overall, we’re pleased.”
