Lycoming's Botts, Wagner earn Academic All-District honors

Cody Botts
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the second year in a row, two Lycoming College football players were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 team, as the organization announced that senior tight end Erik Wagner (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone Area) and sophomore offensive lineman Cody Botts (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) were each honored on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16.

Wagner and Botts are the 20th and 21st players in program history to earn Academic All-District honors and are the seventh and eighth honorees in head coach Mike Clark’s 10 years in the program. In 2016, Austin Mital ’17 and Blake Bowman ’17 were honored. This was the first time in program history that the Warriors have had two Academic All-District honorees in back-to-back years.

Erik Wagner
Wagner, a team captain, was a two-year starter for the Warriors at tight end. This season, he notched a career-high eight receptions for 42 yards and he was also the team's top special teams’ tackler, with six stops. He finished second on team with nine special teams tackles in 2016. A two-time MAC Academic Honor Roll pick as a biology major, the high school quarterback played multiple positions in his career for the Warriors, including safety and linebacker before finding a home as a tight end during his junior year.

Stepping onto the varsity team and into the starting lineup as a left tackle for the Warriors, Botts helped the team to a one-win improvement over the 2016 season. He helped the team rush for 100 yards five times and pass for 200 four times, including one 300-yard game. A member of 2016 MAC Academic Honor Roll, Botts is a history major.

The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Football Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.
