Lycoming Football - Senior Day, last game as the Warriors look for win

A LycomingFootball.com photo
Williamsport, PA - There was a much easier feeling around the Lycoming football team Sunday when preparation for the next game began. That happens when you upset a nationally-ranked team.

But Warriors head coach Mike Clark expressed to his team that last week's win over Delaware Valley means nothing without one more win this week. Lycoming hosts Misericordia on Saturday in the season finale with an opportunity to finish the home schedule 4-1 this year, and more importantly, finish the season with three wins in the final four games.

"Quite honestly, if we don't play well and lose this weekend, it really minimizes what we did last week," Clark said. "We've talked about this as a team. We're not hiding it. We have to win this weekend for the year to be relatively successful."

Lycoming Football - Key pass sparked Lyco’s 99-yard drive in comeback

A LycomingFootball.com Photo
Williamsport, PA - The most important throw Chase Whiteman made in Saturday's wild comeback win over Delaware Valley wasn't all that memorable. It did pick up a first down, but not a touchdown.
It didn't involve any kind of particularly spectacular catch. It wasn't the huge kind of gain which raises eyebrows.
It was a simple out route to Lycoming receiver Ryan Umpleby meant to give the Warriors some breathing room as the drive started at their own 1-yard line. It did just that, and in one play, Lycoming had life. That pass was the first step on a 99-yard march which lasted 14 plays and took just 3 minutes, 6 seconds off the clock.
The drive was pure beauty for Lycoming and quarterback Whiteman. He scanned the field well, finding open receivers. He understood when protection broke down and coverage dropped allowing him to pick up big runs.

Awards - Warriors Ryan Umpleby named to D3football Team of the Week

Sr WR Ryan Umpleby
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After the third 200-yard effort in his career, Lycoming College senior wide receiverRyan Umpleby (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) has earned a slot on the D3football.com Team of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Umpleby helped key Lycoming’s 43-42 upset win over No. 19 Delaware Valley, as he notched 11 catches for 207 yards, becoming the first player in program history to notch three 200-yard games in a career and the first to have a 200-yard game in back-to-back years.

The senior wide receiver notched one of the biggest catches of the game when he hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass with 56 seconds left to bring the Warriors within two points in the three-point win.

Umpleby appears destined to finish his career third in school history in several categories, entering today’s game with 2,380 receiving yards and 157 receptions and fourth with 20 touchdowns. With 1,183 career kick return yards, he is 40 yards shy of the school record of 1,223 set by Craig Needhammer (2011-14). With 3,878 career all-purpose yards, he needs 122 more yards to become the fourth player in school history to post 4,000 in a career.
