DALLAS, Pa. – Junior Marshall Charles (Inglewood, Calif./Verbum Dei) and senior Andre Jackson Jr. (Paterson, N.J./Hawthorne) scored defensive touchdowns to pace the Lycoming College football team, which used that momentum to post a 30-7 win over Misericordia University in a spring game on Friday night, April 30, at Mangelsdorf Field.
The Warrior defense held Misericordia to just 135 total yards, including a paltry 14 in 26 opportunities on the ground and senior Matt Galasso (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) paced the defensive line with three sacks.
Lycoming’s offense was efficient, as it racked up 337 yards in 60 plays, rushing for 197 yards on 41 carries, paced by 73 yards on 10 carries from junior Jacob Fimbres (La Habra, Calif./Sonora) and 68 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries from sophomore Kyle Powell (Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln).
Charles got the Warriors on the board in the first quarter, when he scooped up a miffed snap on a punt and rolled into the end zone. In the first minute of the second quarter, it was Jackson’s turn as Misericordia was backed up to its own 1-yard-line. Jackson picked a pass off facing the end zone and strolled in.
In the second half, the Warriors turned to their ground game, rushing 24 times for 175 yards. Junior Chase Cramer (Andover, N.J./Newton) took an end-around 35 yards for a score early in the third period. After Misericordia got on the board with a 19-yard pass after a turnover on downs gave them a short field, Powell put an exclamation point on the game with a 31-yard stroll into the end zone.
Junior Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) finished 13-of-19 for 140 yards. He was intercepted twice. Junior Kevin Krawczyk (Dupont, Pa./Pittston Area) led the receivers, hauling in six passes for 76 yards and freshman Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) had four catches for 21 yards.
The Warriors will open the 2021 football season at Susquehanna on Saturday, Sept. 4.
