Lycoming College - 2019 PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Lycoming Vs King's

2019 PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Game 4
Lycoming Vs King's

The defense is maturing as a group averaging just 4.5 points per quarter in the last two games. Yes, that is right, they gave up a quick touchdown in less than two minutes of the first kickoff against King's. Yes, that is right, Lycoming lost! But the defense was on the playing field the bigger part of the game for the fourth week in a row! And they were put in the hole a number of times and they held. Against King's, the Wiser lead defense would bend but did not break on at least two critical occasions. Also consider the two very important horrific calls that led to 10 King's points (See: Lycoming Football SloMo - How Is This Great Interception A Pass Interference Call? and Lycoming Football - Ball, Ball, Terrible Call.) I hope you will agree with me that the "D" played an exceptional game against the Colonels and the Monarchs.

So we felt that it was the defense where the Lycoming Football "Player of the Week"  should come from. And the choice was not easy since there were a number of good candidates. We are very happy with our final choice. And that choice is Sr DL Duane Boone from Tyrone, PA, Tyrone Area High School. Consider what he did against King's:

  • 2 solo tackles,
  • 8 assisted tackles
  • 2  tackles of which were for lost yardage.
  • The only solo Sac for a 7 yard loss.
Duane played a great all out game.

Last year Duane played in all 11 games at defensive end and finished with 29 tackles. He notched four tackles against Widener, Lebanon Valley, King’s and Alvernia and totaled 1.5 tackled for loss, including a sack against Lebanon Valley. Boone broke up a pass against Alvernia and led Lycoming with seven special teams tackles, including four on punt returns. In 2016, he was redshirted at Division I Duquesne University.

Duane lettered in football, tennis and track and field. He was a first team all-state selection by the Pennsylvania Football Writers Association and a second-team selection by Pennsylvania Football News and a first-team all-league selection.

Congratulations Duane Boone on being Lycoming Football's 4th "2019 Player of the Week!"
