WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After an impressive 33-19 win over Widener University, the Lycoming College football team picked up a pair of weekly plaudits from the Middle Atlantic Conference, as junior Zach Kovach (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) was named the Defensive Player of the Week and junior Jamie Fisher (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Sunday, Sept. 9.

Kovach led a Warrior defense that held Widener to just 190 total yards, including 34 rushing yards, in a 33-19 win in the non-conference contest. Kovach led the squad with seven tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss against the Pride, a team picked to finish third in the MAC.

Kovach is the first Warrior to earn the MAC Defensive Player of the Week award since Cole Welham on Sept. 21, 2014.

Fisher became the first Warrior to kick four field goals in a game to lead Lycoming to a 33-19 win over Widener in a non-conference matchup. Fisher connected from 39 and 26 yards in the second quarter, 43 yards in the third quarter and 23 yards in the fourth quarter. The senior was also 3-for-3 on points-after-touchdowns (PATs) to give him 15 points, which tied a school record set in 1985 by Rusty Fricke. Fisher also had eight kickoffs for an average of 59.2 yards and one touchback.

The award is the first of Fisher’s career and the first time Lycoming has won the MAC Special Teams Player of the Week award since Cameron Kriner won it for a blocked field goal on Nov. 9, 2014.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they host Lebanon Valley College at 1 p.m. in their MAC opener at David Person Field.
