The crop of 35 members on the academic honor roll is the second-most in the athletic department’s history, behind only the 41 earned in fall 2012. The football team led the fall honor roll selections, posting 11, the third-most in program history, while men’s cross country finished second with seven. Men’s soccer and volleyball each added five, women’s cross country posted four and women’s soccer rounded out the selections with three.
The men’s harriers more than doubled their 2012 total of three runners on the list, as three sophomores and two newcomers to the team earned slots on the honor roll.
Five seniors - C.J. Arhontakis (football, West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), Ryan Boccagno (football, Maytown, Pa./Donegal), Matt McGinley (football, Ashland, Pa./Tri Valley), Carmen Niemeyer (women’s cross country, Brookings, S.D./Brookings),Caitlin Dougherty (women’s soccer, Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) - wrapped up their careers a perfect 3-for-3 in MAC Academic Honor Roll selections, earning the award in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The honor roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher at the beginning of the 2013 fall semester and completed the playing season in good standing.
