Junior Craig Needhammer
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Craig Needhammer (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) became the second Lycoming College running back in as many years to pick up Capital One Academic All-District IV honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Needhammer joins former teammate Parker Showers ’13 as back-to-back Warrior representatives on the NCAA Division III District IV team and he is now eligible to earn Capital One Academic All-American honors, which will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The 5-7 running back has had a monster season for the Warriors, averaging 109.2 yards per game, posting 184 carries for 874 yards and seven touchdowns through the first eight games of the year. He has rushed for more than 100 yards five times this season, including doing it four times in a row during a stretch that included games against nationally-ranked foes in Widener and Delaware Valley.

His 874 yards are already 10th in the program’s history and his 143.3 all-purpose yards per game are third with two games remaining.

He was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after carrying 32 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns in a 19-16 win over the Aggies, who were ranked 16th in the country at the time.

Needhammer, who served as a backup to Showers during his first two years in the program, has begun to ascend the Warriors’ career record book. He is sixth in school history with 2,161 career rushing yards, sixth with 22 rushing touchdowns and ninth with 3,032 all-purpose yards.

The physics major was a MAC Academic Honor Roll selection as a sophomore.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Nov. 9, when they face FDU-Florham at1 p.m. at David Person Field in a MAC game.
