Beyond the Boundaries By Mitch Rupert

Sun-Gazette Photo
Williamsport, PA - One of the best sports writer for Lycoming County sports scene, Mitch Rupert is the main writer for the Lycoming College football team. Mitch goes to every game, but on road trips, he drives by himself, settles into the press box, but on occasion he is on the sideline with his clipboard and his home made play by play cheat sheet.

It is rare for a sports writer to paint a picture with words, but Mitch is a master artist with his articles. When reading his articles, you smell the sweat of the players, you see the scrapes on the helmets, you can feel the celebration of victory and you feel the agony of defeat. He is just to good at putting you into the article, one of the best in the business. The Williamsport Sun-Gazette is fortunate to have a reporter of this quality. Always a good read for players, family and fans of any team.

Mitch Rupert's Biography:

Mitch Rupert has been working in sports journalism since July of 2000 just before his senior year of high school when he was hired at the Press Enterprise in Bloomsburg, Pa. After nearly 9 years with the Press Enterprise, Rupert left to join the staff at the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. Since joining the Sun-Gazette, Rupert has taken control of beat coverage of the Lycoming College football team, high school and college wrestling and the Williamsport Crosscutters, a short-season minor league affiliate of the 2008 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.

He has twice been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors during their national competition which recognizes the best work in sports journalism country-wide. In 2008 he took first place in the under-40,000 circulation category for best game story, and was named honorable mention in the same category in 2010. His musings here will range from national to local sports, trying to put a local connection on the dealings with such teams as the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and wrestling on a national spotlight.
