ANNVILLE, PA - Professional football player Steve Fitzhugh, who played defensive back for the Denver Broncos at the time when John Elway was quarterback for that team, will speak about his experiences as an athlete and his life after professional football as part of a presentation to be held in the gymnasium of Lebanon Valley College's Arnold Sports Center on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. The event, sponsored by LVC's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Office of Spiritual Life, is free and open to the general public.
Following his retirement from professional football, Fitzhugh played a key role in the makeover of three Washington, D.C. crack houses, converting them into an after-school youth center. His adventures also extend throughout America as a result of a successful career he has developed in challenging, motivating, and empowering students on college campuses with clever and engaging presentations designed to revolutionize young adult lives. As a result of this success, he now serves as the national spokesperson for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' OneWay2Play program.
After the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to speak personally with Fitzhugh. He is open to questions and comments, and willing to sign autographs.
Morgan Miller, a student at Lebanon Valley College and student leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, expressed appreciation for an anonymous sponsor who provided part of the funding to bring Fitzhugh. "We've wanted to host a similar event for several years now," she said, "and are really looking forward to the time."
"Fitzhugh relays engaging, inspirational stories with energy and dynamism," stated Rev. Paul Fullmer, Chaplain of the College. "The role his faith has played in the transformation of lives in the Washington, D.C. area and around the county is nothing short of miraculous. We're overjoyed that the students of FCA thought to invite him to campus, and hope that members of the local community will join us for what promises to be a meaningful presentation."
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a nonprofit interdenominational Christian organization. Students involved in FCA at LVC meet weekly in "huddle" designed to encourage their Christian faith.
