WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Lycoming College senior Zack Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) is set to be honored amongst 10 other football players for their academic and athletic accomplishments at the 17th annual Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame banquet at the Penn State Conference Center Hotel at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.
At least 16 area high school student-athletes will receive $1,000 scholarships at the event, which will also honor 45 local high school athletes. In addition, Penn State’s James Franklin will be the featured speakers at the event.
A two-time first-team all-conference punter and one-time first-team all-conference kicker, Czap hit 6-of-10 field goals and 30-of-34 extra points as a senior. He knocked down three field goals, including a game-winning 33-yarder against Widener, and also knocked down a game-tying 35-yarder against Albright with 18 seconds left, then sealed the win with an overtime field goal. He earned two Beyond Sports Network Athlete of the Week nods and one D3football.com Team of the Week selection.
As a punter, he earned the fourth all-conference nod of his career, landing 12 of 45 punts inside the 20 and helping the Warriors net a conference-best 35.5 yards per kick. He finished third in the league with a 38.1 yards per punt average and earned two MAC Special Teams Player of the Week awards, giving him a school-record eight in his career.
Also a standout in the classroom, the actuarial mathematics major earned two MAC Academic Honor Roll selections as a football player and one as a golfer in his career. He is also a three-year starter with the Warrior golf team.
Czap is a two-time honoree at the banquet, as he was also an high school student-athlete honoree at Philipsburg-Osceola in 2010.
The Warriors finished 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the MAC under sixth-year head coach Mike Clark. The team claimed a share of the 15th MAC title in school history, tying for first with Lebanon Valley. The team was once again led by its defense, which finished tops in the MAC, allowing a league-best 304.0 yards, 91.4 rushing yards and 18.3 points per game.
