ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson football freshman Austin Tennessee (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was named Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday after helping lead the Mustangs to a 24-18 victory over Albright at Mustang Stadium on Saturday.
Tennessee is the first Mustang to earn the honor since junior Donnell Brown(Baltimore, Md./Poly) received the honor on Sept. 11, 2011 after totaling 17 tackles, including three for loss in the team's 46-43 double overtime victory over Christopher Newport in the first game at Mustang Stadium on Sept. 10, 2011.
Tennessee finished with three tackles, a fumble recovery, one forced fumble and an interception against the Lions. His fumble recovery was returned 99 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, marking the longest play in the program's three-year history and the first defensive touchdown.
Stevenson hits the road for the first time in 2013 when it travels to FDU-Florham on Friday looking to snap a three game road losing streak. The Mustangs have won both all-time meetings with the Devils, including a 36-13 decision at Robert T. Shields Field on Oct. 29, 2011. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
