MAC Football: WIDENER’S ANTHONY DAVIS AND BRANDON HARPER NAMED TO MAC FOOTBALL WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Anthony Davis (Upland, PA/Chester
Annville, PA – After No. 24 Widener’s stellar effort on opening night at third-ranked Wesley, junior All-America wide receiver/returner Anthony Davis (Upland, PA/Chester) and junior linebacker Brandon Harper (Clementon, NJ/Highland) were picked to the Middle Atlantic Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Davis had another exceptional all-around contest with eight catches for 106 yards as well as four kickoff returns for 149 yards.  He became the eighth player in school history to reach 100 career receptions as he stands at 104 and also had 149 kickoff-return yards to move into the top mark in school history with 1,368, breaking the mark of 1,296 previously held by Bill Eisele (1985-88).
Davis earlier this season was picked a Preseason All-America by the Sporting News, the Beyond Sports Network, D3Football.com and the USA Football Network.  Last season, he was named second team All-America by the Beyond Sports Network, second team All-East Region by D3Football.com, ECAC All-South Region and first team All-MAC for a second straight year.

Harper’s first career start was a success, closing with 12 tackles, five solos and a forced fumble. He is one of four new starters for a defense which last season was third with 3.75 sacks per game and ninth with 8.75 tackles for a loss.

Widener, ranked 15th in the country last week, made a splash in its first game under new coach Bobby Acosta in a 33-21 road loss.  Freshman quarterback Seth Klein (Wernersville, PA/Wilson West Lawn) impressed by completing 26-of-35 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.

Widener is home Saturday against Lebanon Valley for its home and Middle Atlantic Conference opener, starting at 1:00 pm.  A win would be the Pride’s 15th straight at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium, which would set a new school record.
