Warriors Fall to No. 23 Stevenson on Senior Day

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In his final game with the Lycoming College football team, senior Chase Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) completed 26-of-40 passing for a season-high 260 yards and he rushed for 27 more yards and a touchdown, but No. 23 Stevenson broke open a four-point game with two third-quarter touchdowns to post a 28-10 Middle Atlantic Conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Senior Blake Bowman (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) rushed 10 times for 41 yards in the game, becoming the fifth player in school history to post 2,500 yards in a career and holding off Lebanon Valley’s Brandon Irving to become the first player in school history to lead the MAC in rushing two years in a row, averaging 93.6 yards per game to Irving’s 89.6.

Stevenson (9-1 overall, 8-1 MAC) claimed its first MAC title outright with the win in just its sixth year of competition, as Devonte Williams rushed 19 times for 108 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense and the defense used two second-half interceptions to keep Lycoming (3-7 overall, 2-7 MAC) from mounting an upset bid.


The Warriors outgained the Mustangs, 344-297, thanks to the 287 yards of total offense from Whiteman, who finished his career 10th in school history with 280 career completions and second in school history with a 56.9 completion percentage.

Both teams took some time to find their footing, with the first six drives of the game ending via punt before Stevenson embarked on an 11-play, 80-yard drive, with Williams crashing in from one-yard out. After a missed Lycoming field goal, on its next drive left the ball at the 20, Stevenson’s Daniel Williams hit Preston Addo in stride for an 80-yard touchdown with 7:16 left in the quarter.

The Warriors responded with an 11-play, 76-yard drive, as Whiteman found senior Keeghan Morrison (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) twice for 20 yards and sophomore Mike Mulvihill(Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) once for 21 yards before getting into the red zone with a 16-yard option rush. He dove into the end zone from five yards out three plays later to make it 14-7 with 1:55 left in the half.

To open the second half, Whiteman got the Warriors inside the redzone again, driving to the three yard line on a drive highlighted by a 21-yard gain from Morrison. Junior Devin Flynn(Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) capped the drive with a 20-yard field goal to make it 14-10.

The Mustangs responded, though, with touchdowns on its next two drives, as Daniel Williams found Devin Salisbury for a three-yard score and Dontea Ayres scored on a one-yard rush with 2:36 left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Lycoming moved the ball to the Stevenson 24 and 12-yard lines, but could not complete the drives to get back into the game against the MAC Champion defense.

Morrison finished with a career-best seven receptions for 88 yards and Mulvihill caught four passes for 52 yards. Junior Erik Wagner (Warriors Mark, Pa./Tyrone Area) caught a career-best four passes for 22 yards.

Daniel Williams finished 12-of-20 for 190 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs and Addo finished with four catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Devin Salisbury had seven catches for 60 yards and a score.

Sophomore Dominic Loffredo (Linden, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and sophomore Joe Pinzka(Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each had six tackles to lead the Warriors. Senior Jon Rummel (Lykens, Pa./Williams Valley) had four stops and a sack and senior Adin Hines(Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) finished with three stops, 0.5 sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Ashton Leschke led the Mustangs with 13 tackles, two for loss, and Mike Datu added six stops, a sack and an interception. Austin Tennessee also added an interception and Zach May had two breakups.
