Warriors receiving votes in initial D3Football.com poll


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –  For the sixth straight year, the Lycoming College football team has received a vote in the D3Football.com Top 25 poll, beginning the season with 18 votes in the website’s preseason poll, which was released on Thursday, July 18.

The Warriors are coming off an 8-2 campaign in 2012, finishing 8-1 and in second place in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Lycoming is one of three teams in the MAC that picked up votes in the preseason poll, as Widener, which finished 11-1 in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Second Round, is ranked 20th in the poll and Delaware Valley picked up 37 votes in the poll.


Lycoming returns seven players who earned all-conference honors in 2012, including three who have earned mention on Preseason All-American lists in senior linebacker Kabongo Bukasa(Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park), who was the 2012 MAC Defensive Player of the Year, senior defensive lineman Dwight Hentz (Halifax, Pa./Halifax Area) and junior defensive back Tanner Troutman (Hegins, Pa./Tri-Valley). Three-time all-conference selection Zack Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) was a 2011 Preseason All-American as a kicker.

The Warriors picked up votes in four weeks during the 2012 season and during three weeks in 2011. The 2010 squad earned a vote after Week 7 and the 2009 team earned votes in the preseason poll. The 2008 MAC Championship squad earned votes in three weeks of the season.

The Warriors begin their 2013 campaign at Brockport on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m.
